About dusk-rails
A technology consulting practice built on practical expertise and genuine partnership with the organisations we serve.
Our Story
We started in 2012 with a straightforward observation: many organisations were struggling with technology decisions not because the technology was complicated, but because they lacked access to honest, practical advice.
The technology industry had developed a habit of overselling capabilities and underselling complexity. Businesses were buying systems they did not need, implementing solutions that did not fit their workflows, and feeling increasingly frustrated with vendors who disappeared after the sale.
We decided to build something different. A consultancy that would treat every organisation's technology decisions as seriously as our own. That meant understanding before recommending, implementing before invoicing, and staying involved long after the initial project concluded.
Twelve years later, that approach has shaped everything we do. We have grown from three founders to a team of twenty-seven specialists, but our fundamental commitment remains unchanged: make technology work for people, not the other way around.
What We Believe
The principles that guide our work and shape our relationships with clients.
Technology Serves People
Every system, device, and application exists to help people accomplish their work more effectively. When technology creates friction rather than reducing it, something has gone wrong. We design solutions that fit naturally into existing workflows and genuinely make tasks easier.
Honest Advice Builds Trust
We have walked away from opportunities where we knew the client would be better served by a different solution, even one we could not provide. Short-term revenue never justifies long-term relationship damage. Our clients trust us because they know we tell them what they need to hear, not what they want to hear.
Complexity Should Be Managed
Modern technology environments involve dozens of interconnected systems, each with its own update cycles, security requirements, and failure modes. We do not pretend this complexity does not exist. Instead, we help organisations manage it systematically, reducing risk while maintaining flexibility.

We focus exclusively on technology consulting for mid-market organisations. Unlike larger firms, you work directly with senior consultants throughout your engagement, not junior staff learning on your project. Our size allows us to be more responsive and flexible, while our specialisation means we bring deep expertise to every conversation.
Our consultants hold relevant industry certifications including CISSP, CISM, PRINCE2, and various vendor certifications. More importantly, they have practical experience delivering projects in real business environments. We value demonstrated competence over credential accumulation.
Yes, for well-defined scopes of work. After our initial assessment, we can often provide fixed-price proposals that give you cost certainty. For more exploratory or evolving engagements, we work on a time and materials basis with regular budget reviews and no surprises.
Our main office is in London, with a second location in Manchester. We serve clients throughout the United Kingdom and can provide on-site support within a day for most locations. Many of our engagements blend remote and on-site work depending on project requirements.
